Nostalgic Street Toast: Loaded with Cabbage for a Satisfying Meal
How to Make Street Toast Packed with Cabbage
This street toast is so hearty with plenty of fresh cabbage, you’ll feel satisfied with just half! It’s perfect as a snack for kids, a late-night treat, or a delightful weekend special. This simple recipe combines freshness, sweetness, and a hint of saltiness.
Key Ingredients- 2 slices of bread
- 2 eggs
- 1 slice of cheese
- 1 handful of shredded cabbage (approx. 1 cup)
- 1 sausage (optional, your choice)
- Strawberry jam
- 0.5 Tbsp sugar
- Ketchup
- Pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
I used a chicken breast sausage for this recipe, but regular ham or Vienna sausages work just as well. Feel free to add other ingredients like carrots or scallions for extra flavor and texture!
Step 2
In a bowl, crack 2 eggs and add a pinch of salt. Whisk them together until well combined. Then, add the shredded cabbage and chopped sausage (or ham) to the egg mixture and stir until everything is evenly distributed.
Step 3
Butter usually adds a lovely richness and tenderness, but I opted to toast the bread separately in a toaster this time. (I’m trying to be healthy, so butter was skipped! 😉)
Step 4
Heat a lightly oiled pan over low heat. Pour the egg and cabbage mixture into the pan and cook. It’s important to cook it over low heat to ensure the inside is fully cooked through.
Step 5
Spread a thin layer of strawberry jam on one side of a slice of toasted bread. The sweet jam adds a wonderful dimension to the toast.
Step 6
Now for the final assembly! Place the cooked egg and cabbage patty on top of the jam-spread bread. Sprinkle a little sugar over it, add a slice of cheese, drizzle with ketchup, and top with the other slice of bread. Your delicious street toast is ready!
