- 1 handful of fish cake (square type, approx. 50g)
- 1/4 yellow bell pepper
- 1/4 red bell pepper
- 1/4 onion
- 4-5 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
- Pinch of black pepper
Spicy & Sweet Sauce- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp tonkatsu sauce (pork cutlet sauce)
- 1/3 tbsp oyster sauce (approx. 1.5 tsp)
- 1 tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp tonkatsu sauce (pork cutlet sauce)
- 1/3 tbsp oyster sauce (approx. 1.5 tsp)
- 1 tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Briefly blanch the Vienna sausages in boiling water for about 1 minute. This helps remove excess grease and impurities, and prevents the sausages from bursting, keeping them plump and firm.
Step 2
Cut the fish cake into bite-sized pieces and rinse lightly under cold water. Blanching the fish cake also helps to enhance its chewy texture.
Step 3
Make diagonal slits in the blanched Vienna sausages. This scoring helps the sauce penetrate better, making them more flavorful.
Step 4
Slice the fish cake into easy-to-eat, bite-sized pieces. Avoid cutting them too small to ensure a satisfying chew.
Step 5
Chop the onion and bell peppers into bite-sized squares, similar in size to the sausages and fish cake. Thinly slice the garlic.
Step 6
In a small bowl, combine 3 tbsp ketchup, 1 tbsp tonkatsu sauce, 1/3 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tbsp corn syrup, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well to create a delicious sauce. You can use sugar instead of corn syrup, but corn syrup adds a nice sheen.
Step 7
Heat 2 tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced garlic and sauté until fragrant. The garlic aroma will add depth to the dish.
Step 8
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the prepared Vienna sausages and fish cake. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes over medium-low heat. Add a pinch of black pepper here to remove any gamey smell and enhance the flavor.
Step 9
Add the chopped bell peppers and onion to the pan. Stir-fry quickly over medium-high heat. It’s important to keep the vegetables crisp and not let them become soggy.
Step 10
Pour the prepared sauce over the ingredients in the pan. Ensure the sauce coats everything evenly.
Step 11
Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir-fry gently for about 1-2 minutes, being careful not to burn the sauce. Cook until the sauce thickens and clings to the ingredients. This will complete the dish.
Step 12
Finally, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top for garnish. Your delicious sausage and vegetable stir-fry is ready! It’s great served over warm rice as a rice bowl, or enjoyed as a snack with a cold beer.
