Buttered Corn Ingredients- 2 ears of boiled corn
- 10g butter (approx. 1/2 Tbsp)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (approx. 15g)
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise (approx. 15g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, carefully remove the kernels from the boiled corn using a knife or a corn stripper. Be cautious to prevent the kernels from scattering. Once separated, thoroughly pat the corn kernels dry with paper towels. Drying the kernels ensures they become crispy when pan-fried.
Step 2
After removing the kernels and drying them, you should have about 2 cups of corn. You can measure this to ensure the correct amount.
Step 3
Now, heat a pan over medium heat and add 10g of butter. Let it melt slowly, ensuring it coats the bottom of the pan evenly without burning.
Step 4
Once the butter has melted, add the dried corn kernels to the pan. Stir and cook them, almost as if you’re frying them. Use a spatula to stir frequently to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
Step 5
Frying the corn kernels until they are lightly browned will give them a delightful texture – slightly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Listen for the ‘pop’ as the kernels tumble in the pan; this indicates they are cooking nicely. Continue cooking over medium-low heat.
Step 6
As the corn kernels begin to turn a golden brown, add 1 tablespoon of sugar. Stir well to coat the corn evenly. The sugar will melt and glaze the kernels, adding a sweet flavor.
Step 7
Once the sugar is well combined, add 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. Stir quickly to incorporate it. Mayonnaise will add a creamy texture and rich flavor, creating a delicious sauce when mixed with the butter and sugar.
Step 8
After adding the mayonnaise, continue to cook the corn over low heat for another 1-2 minutes, stirring gently, until the kernels are a deeper golden brown and look appetizingly toasted.
Step 9
The finished buttered corn has a wonderfully chewy texture and a delicious sweet taste. It’s best enjoyed warm right away. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle it with dried parsley or grated Parmesan cheese for a different flavor profile. Enjoy this simple yet incredibly tasty buttered corn!
