Ramos Gin Fizz: A Classic Gin Cocktail with Exquisite Texture
How to Make a Smooth and Fragrant Ramos Gin Fizz Cocktail at Home
Introducing the Ramos Gin Fizz, a cocktail celebrated for its rich flavor and velvety smooth texture. While it boasts a perfect balance of delicate aromas and exquisite taste, its significant downside is the effort required to make it! It’s a drink that demands the skilled hand of a bartender, making it a bit challenging to attempt at home. However, the satisfaction and deliciousness achieved upon success are truly unforgettable!
Ingredients- 45ml Gin (choose your preferred gin)
- 15ml Fresh Lemon Juice
- 15ml Fresh Lime Juice
- 30ml Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved, then cooled)
- 30ml Cold Heavy Cream
- 30ml Carbonated Water (chilled)
- 1 Egg White (use fresh eggs)
- 6-8 drops Orange Flower Water (adds depth of aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, place your serving glass in the freezer to chill it thoroughly. This is a crucial step to keep your cocktail refreshingly cold.
Step 2
Now, prepare your shaker. Add 45ml of gin, 15ml of fresh lemon juice, 15ml of fresh lime juice, 30ml of simple syrup, 30ml of cold heavy cream, 1 fresh egg white, and 6-8 drops of orange flower water for that exquisite aroma. Close the shaker tightly and perform a ‘dry shake’ for about 5 minutes without any ice. This process helps the ingredients emulsify beautifully and creates a rich foam from the egg white.
Step 3
After 5 minutes of dry shaking, open the shaker, add a few ice cubes, and close it again. Shake vigorously for another 3 minutes. This time, the ice will chill the mixture and further refine the texture, creating a wonderfully smooth consistency.
Step 4
Retrieve your perfectly chilled glass from the freezer. Pour about 10ml of the chilled carbonated water into the bottom of the glass. Then, carefully strain the shaken cocktail mixture into the glass. Pouring slowly will help preserve the beautiful foam layer created by the egg white.
Step 5
Allow the cocktail to rest for a moment. It’s important to patiently wait until the foam (meringue) on top has set firmly. This resting period is key to achieving the desired texture.
Step 6
Prepare your garnish to enhance the cocktail’s aroma. Cut a piece of lemon or orange peel. You’ll use this to express its oils over the drink (rinse), adding an extra layer of fragrant complexity.
Step 7
Once the foam on top has reached a firm consistency, gently pour the remaining chilled carbonated water (about 20ml) down the side of the glass to fill it to the brim. Pouring along the glass wall helps maintain the integrity of the foam layer.
Step 8
Finally, rub the prepared lemon or orange peel around the rim of the glass (rinse) to release its aromatic oils. Your fragrant and velvety Ramos Gin Fizz cocktail is now complete! Enjoy this masterpiece crafted with dedication and care.
