Dumpling Filling Ingredients & Seasoning

  • 1 block Tofu
  • 100g Onion
  • 50g Green Onion
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 20 sheets Rice Paper
  • 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all the ingredients to make delicious tofu dumplings wrapped in rice paper. Wash the onion and green onions thoroughly.

Step 1

Step 2

It is crucial to squeeze out as much moisture as possible from the tofu. If the filling has too much water, the rice paper may tear, or the dumplings might stick together. You can drain the tofu by placing it in a colander and pressing it with a heavy object, or simply squeeze it firmly with your hands.

Step 2

Step 3

In a bowl, crumble the squeezed tofu with a fork or your hands until it’s smooth. Finely dice the onion and thinly slice the green onions. Combine the crumbled tofu, diced onion, sliced green onions, minced garlic, toasted sesame seeds, and salt. Mix well to create the dumpling filling. A key tip: adding a generous amount of onion makes the dumplings exceptionally flavorful. You can even use a similar amount of onion to tofu for a richer taste.

Step 3

Step 4

Your delicious tofu dumpling filling is now complete! Taste and adjust seasoning if needed by adding a little more salt.

Step 4

Step 5

Prepare a wide bowl with warm water. Dip the rice paper sheets into the warm water for about 15-20 seconds per side until they become pliable. Be careful not to soak them for too long, as they might tear.

Step 5

Step 6

Place a suitable amount of the prepared tofu filling onto the softened rice paper. Don’t overfill, as it can make shaping the dumplings difficult.

Step 6

Step 7

Fold in the sides of the rice paper to enclose the filling, then fold the bottom edge up over the filling.

Step 7

Step 8

Roll the dumpling upwards tightly to form a neat package, similar to a small log or your desired dumpling shape. Rice paper is thin, so it will easily wrap after a few rolls.

Step 8

Step 9

Continue this process with the remaining ingredients to form all the dumplings. They are now ready to be fried or pan-fried.

Step 9

Step 10

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the rice paper dumplings in the hot oil and fry them, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Using enough oil is essential to prevent the rice paper from sticking and to ensure the dumplings cook evenly through. Ensure they are thoroughly cooked, as undercooked rice paper can become soggy or stick together.

Step 10

Step 11

Your crispy exterior, tender interior tofu rice paper dumplings are ready! They are delicious on their own, but for an extra flavorful experience, serve them with a dipping sauce. A simple and tasty sauce can be made by mixing equal parts soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar (1:1:1 ratio) for a sweet and tangy accompaniment.
