  • Occasion : Nutritious food
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • 1 Pear (medium size)
  • 60g Peeled Bellflower Root
  • 8 Jujube Dates

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, peel the pear, remove the core, and cut it into 4-5 wedges. For the bellflower root, I used a pre-peeled variety, which I simply rinsed once under running water. Wash the jujube dates thoroughly by gently scrubbing them with a small brush under running water.

Step 1

Step 2

Place all the prepared pear, bellflower root, and jujube dates into the inner pot of your rice cooker. Add water up to the ‘2’ mark for cooking white rice. Then, select the ‘Nutrition Steaming’ or ‘Multi-function Steaming’ mode and cook for 40 minutes. This process will tenderize the ingredients and draw out their delicious juices.

Step 2

Step 3

After 40 minutes of cooking, open the rice cooker. You’ll notice the water level has increased slightly. The color of the liquid might appear light at this stage, but don’t worry, the next step will enhance its richness.

Step 3

Step 4

Place a sieve over a large bowl and line it with a cheesecloth or a clean fine-mesh cloth. Pour the cooked pear, bellflower root, and jujube contents from the rice cooker onto the cloth. Gather the edges of the cloth and gently press down on the solids with a spoon or spatula to extract as much liquid as possible. This pressing action will yield a much more concentrated and flavorful pear and bellflower root juice, rich with nutrients.
