  • Ingredient Category : Vegetables
  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Seasoned mix
  • Servings : 5 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 bag fresh bean sprouts (approx. 200-300g)
  • A small bunch of green onions or scallions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic (adjust to taste)

Seasoning

  • 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce or salt (adjust to your preference)
  • 2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds, lightly crushed for extra flavor
  • 1 tsp chili powder (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, rinse the bean sprouts thoroughly under running water. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris. Gently shake them to remove excess water.

Step 1

Step 2

Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, add the bean sprouts and blanch them for just about 1 minute. Be careful not to overcook, as they will become mushy and lose their crispiness.

Step 2

Step 3

Immediately drain the blanched bean sprouts and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process and preserve their crunch. After rinsing, gather the bean sprouts with both hands and squeeze out as much water as possible. Excess water will dilute the seasoning and affect the taste.

Step 3

Step 4

Place the squeezed bean sprouts in a mixing bowl. Add the minced garlic, chopped green onions, soy sauce (or salt), chili powder, sesame seeds, and the fragrant sesame oil.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, gently mix everything together with your hands, like gently tossing. Be careful not to crush the bean sprouts. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding a tiny bit more salt or soy sauce if it’s not salty enough.

Step 5

Step 6

Transfer the seasoned bean sprout salad to a serving dish. Enjoy the delightful crunch and the rich, nutty aroma of sesame oil. It’s a wonderful side dish that pairs perfectly with warm rice – you can even mix it into your rice for a flavorful bite!
