Baek Jong Won Style Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl (Katsudon)
Easy Baek Jong Won Katsudon Recipe Using Frozen Pork Cutlets at Home
Today, I’m bringing you a delicious rice bowl dish that’s easy to make at home, tasting just like it came from a restaurant. My husband absolutely loves Katsudon, and I wanted to make it for him myself this time. He enjoyed it so much! While it would have been even better with freshly made pork cutlets, using frozen ones still resulted in a delicious meal. Let’s make this Baek Jong Won-style pork cutlet rice bowl that kids adore too!
Ingredients- Pork cutlets 2 pieces
- Eggs 3
- Onion about 1/2 (adjust to your preference)
- Cooked rice 2 servings
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the ingredients for our delicious rice bowl. I decided to use 3 eggs instead of 2 because they seemed a bit small, creating a nice, fluffy egg mixture. Although not pictured, please thinly slice about half an onion after peeling and washing it. Thinly sliced onions will blend beautifully with the sauce.
Step 2
Now it’s time to prepare the star of our dish: the pork cutlets! I’m using frozen pork cutlets that I had at home. Even though they’re the type you might eat as a side dish, they’ll make a fantastic Katsudon. I’m using two cutlets for two servings. Fry the pork cutlets until they are golden brown and perfectly crispy, following the package instructions. Once fried, place them on paper towels or parchment paper to drain any excess oil.
Step 3
Next, we’ll make the special sauce that gives the pork cutlet rice bowl its amazing flavor. In a small pot, combine 100ml of water, 2.5 Tbsp of soy sauce, 2 Tbsp of mirin, and 2 Tbsp of sugar. Stir well. Add the thinly sliced onions to the pot and bring it to a simmer. Cook until the sauce comes to a boil and the onions are about halfway tender – this will infuse the sauce with a deep, delicious flavor.
Step 4
While the sauce is simmering, cut the nicely fried pork cutlets into bite-sized pieces. This makes them easier to eat with the rice. Place the cut pieces of pork cutlet directly onto the onions in the simmering sauce. The cutlets will absorb the sauce as they cook, becoming even more tender and flavorful.
Step 5
Now it’s time to add the egg mixture. Carefully pour the beaten eggs around the pork cutlets and onions in the sauce. Be mindful of the heat to ensure the eggs cook gently and remain soft. Finally, sprinkle some freshly chopped green onions over the top for a touch of freshness and color. Your delicious Baek Jong Won-style Katsudon is almost ready!
Step 6
Voila! Your impressive Baek Jong Won Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl is complete. Simply place this flavorful creation on top of a bowl of warm, steamed rice, and you’ll have a visually stunning dish that looks like it came straight from a restaurant.
Step 7
Honestly… as soon as it was ready, it looked so appetizing that I couldn’t resist taking a bite before I could even snap a proper photo of it on the rice! The savory and sweet sauce, combined with the tender pork cutlet and rice, creates an incredibly delicious combination that needs no other side dishes. This is a flavor that kids will absolutely rave about. Why not make this irresistible Baek Jong Won Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl for dinner tonight for the whole family to enjoy?
