Main Ingredients

  • 165g Ground Beef
  • 1/2 medium Onion
  • 2 Shiitake Mushrooms
  • 1 Green Onion (Scallion)

Seasoning

  • 150ml Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 50ml Water
  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce from Marinated Crabs (or regular soy sauce)
  • 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables for the stir-fried gochujang paste. Finely mince 1/2 medium onion and 2 shiitake mushrooms after cleaning them thoroughly. Mincing them small will help them blend well with the gochujang later.

Step 1

Step 2

Thinly slice the white and green parts of 1 green onion. You can also mince it even finer if you prefer.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare 165g of ground beef. You can use store-bought ground beef, or for a fresher, more delicious taste, grind your preferred cut of beef yourself.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s start stir-frying. Heat 1 Tbsp of sesame oil in a pan. Add the minced onion, 2 Tbsp of minced garlic, and the sliced green onion. Sauté over medium-low heat until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Gently stir-fry until aromatic.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the onion starts to turn translucent, add the minced shiitake mushrooms and continue to stir-fry. The mushrooms will add a deeper flavor to the paste.

Step 5

Step 6

When the vegetables are partially cooked, add the ground beef. Stir-fry until the beef is no longer pink and becomes crumbly. If the pan seems dry, add a little more sesame oil.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, add the star ingredient: Gochujang! Add 150ml of gochujang and stir well with the beef and vegetables for another 2-3 minutes. Stir-frying the gochujang reduces any bitterness and enhances its savory notes.

Step 7

Step 8

Pour in 50ml of water into the stir-fried gochujang mixture. Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir continuously with a spatula to prevent sticking. Let it simmer until the sauce thickens, which should take about 5-7 minutes.

Step 8

Step 9

Finally, it’s time to add the ingredients for sweetness and extra flavor. Stir in 2 Tbsp of honey, 1 Tbsp of crab soy sauce (or regular soy sauce), and the remaining 1 Tbsp of sesame oil until everything is well combined. Simmer for another moment until slightly reduced, then turn off the heat. Your delicious Beef Stir-Fried Gochujang paste is ready! Once cooled, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks of enjoyment.
