Ingredients

  • Fresh eggs (at room temperature)
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar
  • Water (enough to cover the eggs)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Pour enough water into a pot to generously cover the eggs and place it on the stove. A pot with some depth is recommended.

Step 1

Step 2

Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to the water. Vinegar helps to firm up the eggshells, preventing them from cracking during boiling.

Step 2

Step 3

Additionally, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water. Salt assists in coagulating the egg white if it happens to leak out.

Step 3

Step 4

Place a steamer rack or a mesh that can securely hold the eggs over the water. If you don’t have a steamer, you can carefully lower the eggs using a spoon.

Step 4

Step 5

Cover the pot with a lid and wait for the water to come to a rolling boil. Use high heat to bring it to a boil.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the water is boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium. It’s important to maintain a consistent boil where bubbles are continuously rising.

Step 6

Step 7

Carefully place the eggs, which have been at room temperature, onto the steamer rack. Avoid putting cold eggs directly into boiling water, as the sudden temperature change can cause them to crack. Room temperature is key!

Step 7

Step 8

Arrange the eggs stably on the steamer. Giving them a little space so they don’t touch each other is a good idea.

Step 8

Step 9

Cover the pot again and maintain medium heat for exactly 7 to 8 minutes. 7 minutes will yield a very soft, gooey yolk, while 8 minutes will result in a slightly more set, but still soft, yolk. Adjust the time based on your preferred doneness.

Step 9

Step 10

When the timer is up, immediately remove the boiled eggs from the water. Overcooking will result in a fully cooked, hard yolk.

Step 10

Step 11

Transfer the removed eggs into a bowl of cold water or an ice bath to cool them down quickly. This stops the cooking process and makes the shells much easier to peel. Let them soak for about 5 minutes.

Step 11

Step 12

Gently peel the shells by rolling them slightly. You’ll have perfectly soft-boiled eggs, with a firm yet yielding white and a luscious, runny yolk, ready to be enjoyed!

Step 12
