  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • Beef (for Bulgogi) 1.2kg
  • Sugar 5 Tbsp
  • Corn Syrup 2 Tbsp
  • Minced Garlic 2 Tbsp
  • Dried Shiitake Mushrooms 3-4 pcs (or fresh)
  • Onion 1 pc
  • Oyster Mushrooms 1 pack
  • Green Onions 2 stalks
  • Soy Sauce 11 Tbsp
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • Sesame Seeds to garnish
  • Sesame Oil 6 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 1.2kg of beef thinly sliced for Bulgogi. If the meat is in a large piece, gently separate it into thinner slices using the back of a knife. This helps the marinade penetrate better. Add 5 Tbsp of sugar to the prepared beef. Sugar helps to tenderize the meat.

Step 1

Step 2

Add 2 Tbsp of corn syrup for sweetness and a glossy finish.

Step 2

Step 3

Add 2 Tbsp of minced garlic for flavor. Gently mix the meat, separating the slices as you go, and set aside briefly. Separating the slices and marinating them individually is a key tip for even flavor distribution.

Step 3

Step 4

For added flavor, prepare 3-4 shiitake mushrooms and slice them thinly. If using dried shiitake mushrooms, rehydrate them in lukewarm water before slicing.

Step 4

Step 5

Thinly slice one large onion. The natural sweetness and moisture from the onion will enhance the richness of the Bulgogi.

Step 5

Step 6

Separate the oyster mushrooms (1 pack) by gently pulling them apart after trimming the ends. Their chewy texture complements the Bulgogi wonderfully.

Step 6

Step 7

Cut 2 green onions diagonally into bite-sized pieces. The mild pungent flavor of the green onions helps to eliminate any gamey odor from the meat and adds visual appeal.

Step 7

Step 8

While you were preparing the vegetables, the meat should have marinated for a while. Now, add 11 Tbsp of soy sauce, the key to the flavor. Soy sauce provides the salty taste and umami.

Step 8

Step 9

Add all the prepared shiitake mushrooms, onion, oyster mushrooms, and green onions to the beef.

Step 9

Step 10

Gently mix everything together with your hands, ensuring the meat and vegetables are well coated with the marinade. Be careful not to knead too vigorously, as this can break down the meat.

Step 10

Step 11

Sprinkle with black pepper to remove any unwanted odors and enhance the flavor. Adjust the amount of pepper to your preference.

Step 11

Step 12

Finally, drizzle generously with 6 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and a beautiful sheen.

Step 12

Step 13

Heat a pan over medium heat without adding any oil. Add the marinated beef and stir frequently to prevent burning. Cooking it in batches might be necessary depending on your pan size.

Step 13

Step 14

Once the Bulgogi is cooked through, sprinkle with sesame seeds for a final touch. Enjoy your delicious and super simple Beef Bulgogi with a bowl of warm rice! ❤
