Chewy & Savory Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice
Boost Flavor with Gochujang! A Delicious Bacon & Radish Kimchi Fried Rice Recipe
Introducing a recipe for Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice with a delightful chewy texture. We’ll add gochujang for an even deeper, more satisfying flavor!
Ingredients- 1 bowl of well-fermented kimchi radish (with a little juice)
- 2 bowls of cooked rice
- 4 strips of thick-cut bacon (or to taste)
- 4-5 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce (adjust to taste)
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely chop the kimchi radish and bacon into bite-sized pieces. Cutting the kimchi radish small will help it blend well with the rice. (Tip: If you’re using ground pork, tuna, or Spam instead, drain the pork and season it with salt and pepper. For tuna, drain the oil. For Spam, blanch it in hot water before chopping.)
Step 2
Heat 5 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Once the garlicky aroma is pleasant, add the chopped bacon and cook until golden brown, rendering out its fat. (Tip: The crispier the bacon gets, the richer the flavor. If using ground pork, ensure it’s cooked thoroughly at this stage.)
Step 3
Once the bacon has rendered its fat, add the finely chopped kimchi radish to the pan and stir-fry together. Cook until the kimchi radish softens and its sweet and sour flavors are enhanced. Add 1/2 tablespoon of gochugaru for color and an extra layer of flavor.
Step 4
Add two bowls of hot cooked rice to the pan. Gently stir and mix with the kimchi radish and bacon, ensuring all ingredients are evenly distributed. It’s important to mix well so that the seasoning coats every grain of rice.
Step 5
Now for the flavor boost! Add 1.5 tablespoons of gochujang and mix it thoroughly with the rice. For an extra umami kick, you can add 1/2 tablespoon of soy sauce, but if the kimchi radish is already quite salty, you can skip it. Taste and adjust the soy sauce amount as needed. (Tip: The gochujang alone provides plenty of flavor. Adding soy sauce is optional.)
Step 6
Your flavorful Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice, stir-fried to a glossy perfection, is ready! Serve it attractively in a bowl, and top with a perfectly fried sunny-side-up egg for an even more delightful meal.
