Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ground beef. I’m using frozen ground beef, so I slightly thawed it before use. This helps the seasoning penetrate better. You can also use fresh ground beef.

Step 2
Place the prepared ground beef in a bowl. Add the minced garlic and soy sauce. If you prefer a stronger garlic taste, feel free to increase the amount of minced garlic.

Step 3
Next, add the ginger powder and black pepper for flavor, the oligodang for sweetness and shine, and the celery powder for a unique aroma.

Step 4
Mix everything well with your hands until the seasoning is evenly distributed onto the beef. Marinating the beef like this allows the flavors to meld, resulting in a deeper taste. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 5
Heat a pan and add the marinated beef. It’s important to break up any clumps of beef with a spatula while stir-frying so it cooks evenly. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and is completely cooked through.

Step 6
Once the beef is fully cooked, add the gochujang and mix quickly. Reduce the heat to medium-low to prevent the gochujang from burning. You’ll start to smell the savory aroma of the gochujang.

Step 7
Now, add the joecheong (rice syrup), salt, sugar, and finally, the perilla oil for a nutty fragrance. Stir and cook until well combined. Since the saltiness and sweetness of soy sauce and gochujang can vary by brand and household, adjust the sweetness and saltiness at this stage to your personal preference. You can also use honey instead of sugar.

Step 8
Lower the heat to very low and continue to stir and cook for about 5 minutes. As the moisture evaporates, the sauce will thicken, developing a richer flavor and gloss. Your ‘Spicy and Sweet Beef and Gochujang Stir-fry’ is now complete, boasting a deep beef flavor! On Jeongwol Daeboreum, add this stir-fry generously to your assorted namul dishes and a fried egg for a truly delicious bibimbap. You must try making this!
