Main Ingredients

  • 1 Tteokbokki-style rice cake stick (approx. 200g)
  • 12 Vienna sausages
  • 6 Wooden skewers
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the rice cakes. Cut the tteokbokki rice cake into pieces roughly the same length as the Vienna sausages, about 5-6 cm long. Cutting them not too thick will help them cook evenly inside and make them easier to skewer.

Step 1

Step 2

Now it’s time to assemble the skewers! Alternate threading the ingredients in the order: rice cake – sausage – rice cake – sausage – rice cake. This creates the classic ‘SoTteok SoTteok’ look. You should be able to make a total of 6 skewers using your ingredients.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add about 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Carefully place the assembled SoTteok SoTteok skewers into the hot pan. The key is to cook them slowly over medium heat. Grill until the sausages are golden brown and slightly charred, and the rice cakes are crispy and golden like toasted rice, resembling ‘nurungji’ (scorched rice).

Step 3

Step 4

Let’s check out the perfectly grilled SoTteok SoTteok! The rice cakes are wonderfully crispy on the outside and satisfyingly chewy inside, while the sausages are plump and juicy. They look absolutely delicious and are already wonderful even without sauce.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, generously drizzle your favorite sauce over the skewers! Whether you prefer the sweet and tangy ketchup, the sweet and savory teriyaki sauce, or the zesty mustard sauce, any choice will be delicious. I personally love a spicy kick, so I’ve drizzled plenty of hot chili sauce. Enjoy your special ‘SoTteok SoTteok’, customized with your favorite sauce!
