Ingredients

  • Spaghetti for 1 serving
  • 3 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 5 cloves Garlic
  • Ham (any kind, as desired)
  • 1/4 Onion
  • 2 Fresh Shiitake Mushrooms
  • 2 Basil Leaves (optional)
  • Pinch of Salt
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Tip: The basil in the photo is optional! The key components for Neapolitan spaghetti are ketchup and spaghetti noodles. Feel free to use any other ingredients you have in your fridge to create your own unique version. It’s your culinary canvas!

Step 1

Step 2

Bring a generous pot of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and cook the spaghetti according to package directions, usually around 8-10 minutes. Cook to your preferred doneness. Drain the spaghetti and set aside.

Step 2

Step 3

While the pasta is cooking, prepare your vegetables. Dice the onion into small, roughly 0.5cm pieces. Thinly slice or mince the garlic. Cut the shiitake mushrooms and ham into bite-sized pieces.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium heat and generously drizzle in olive oil. Regular cooking oil can be used as a substitute if olive oil isn’t available.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the sliced garlic to the pan and gently sauté over low heat to infuse the oil with garlic flavor. Be careful not to burn the garlic; cook until it turns a golden brown color.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the garlic is fragrant and golden, increase the heat to medium-high. Add the diced ham, onion, and sliced shiitake mushrooms. Stir-fry quickly until the vegetables are slightly softened and the ingredients are lightly browned.

Step 6

Step 7

Now it’s time to bring everything together! Add the drained spaghetti and 3 tablespoons of ketchup to the pan. You can adjust the amount of ketchup to your taste; add more if you prefer it sweeter or tangier. Season with salt and pepper. Adding the basil leaves at this stage will infuse a wonderful fragrance.

Step 7

Step 8

Toss all the ingredients well with the sauce and cook for another minute. Your incredibly simple and delicious Neapolitan spaghetti is ready! Serve immediately for the best taste experience.
