Main Ingredients- 7 Bullet Squids (Please prepare fresh ones.)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The first step to bringing out the tender flavor of fresh bullet squid! First, gently pull the tentacles away from the body to separate them. Then, remove the innards and eyes from inside the body. Rinse the squid thoroughly under running water until clean. Make diagonal cuts on the squid bodies; these cuts will help the seasoning absorb better and make the squid more tender when cooked.
Step 2
Now it’s time to steam the delicious squid. Fill a steamer pot with plenty of water and bring it to a simmer over medium heat until steam is rising. Arrange the cleaned bullet squid evenly in the steamer, making sure they don’t overlap. Cover the pot tightly to prevent steam from escaping and steam for about 8 minutes. The cooking time may vary slightly depending on the size of the squid, so be careful not to overcook.
Step 3
After 8 minutes, turn off the heat. When you open the steamer lid, you’ll see the beautifully cooked bullet squid, exuding a subtle sea aroma. Check if the squid is tender and cooked through. Steaming them this simply allows you to fully enjoy the exquisite flavor of fresh squid.
Step 4
Arrange the finished steamed bullet squid neatly on a serving plate. Serving them with a spicy and sweet gochujang (chili paste) sauce will enhance their flavor even further. It’s delicious served over rice as a topping, or as an excellent appetizer with a cold beer or soju! This recipe works wonderfully with regular squid as well, so feel free to adapt it to your preference.
