Crispy Air Fryer Fried Hardtack
How to Enjoy Stale Hardtack: Air Fryer Fried Version
Did you know that most people can’t eat more than 8 hardtack crackers a minute? I vaguely remember watching this on TV a long time ago and testing it with friends, timing ourselves. Hardtack, the snack that often gets stuck in your throat! Today, I’ve made it even more delicious by frying it. While it’s good as is, imagine how much tastier it becomes when fried! ^ㅡ^
Ingredients- Hardtack crackers, about 150g (approx. 2 small bags)
- Vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons
- Sugar, 2 tablespoons (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare about 150g of hardtack crackers. This is roughly equivalent to two small bags sold in stores. Feel free to adjust the ingredients proportionally if you wish to make a larger or smaller batch.
Step 2
Add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the hardtack crackers and mix them thoroughly with your hands. It’s important to lightly coat the surface of the crackers with oil. This step ensures they become extra crispy when fried.
Step 3
Spread the oiled hardtack crackers evenly in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not overlapping, as this can prevent heat from circulating evenly and result in soggy crackers.
Step 4
Set the air fryer to 170°C (338°F) and bake for about 7 minutes. It’s a good idea to toss the crackers halfway through the cooking time to ensure they crisp up evenly on all sides. The cooking time may vary slightly depending on your specific air fryer model.
Step 5
Once the hardtack crackers are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the air fryer and place them in a bowl. While they are still hot, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar over them and toss to coat evenly. The heat from the crackers will help the sugar adhere well, creating a delightful sweet and savory treat. You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your preference.
