Main Ingredients- Salted sea mustard stems 300g
- 1 small onion
- 1/2 carrot
Seasoning- Salt 1-2 pinches
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- Salt 1-2 pinches
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly rinse the salted sea mustard stems under running water to remove excess salt. Wash them by rubbing with coarse salt 1-2 times, then soak them in cold water for about 15-20 minutes to desalinate. This process ensures the stems are not bitter and have a tender texture.
Step 2
After soaking to remove the salt, rub the sea mustard stems again and squeeze out as much water as possible. Then, cut them into bite-sized pieces (about 5-7cm long). It’s crucial to squeeze out the water thoroughly, otherwise, the stir-fry might become watery and mushy.
Step 3
Peel the onion and slice it into thin strips. Peel the carrot and cut it lengthwise into thin julienne strips as well. Slicing the carrot thinly will help it cook evenly and maintain a vibrant color.
Step 4
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the squeezed sea mustard stems and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. This helps to slightly dry out the stems, making them more plump and delicious when cooked.
Step 5
Once the sea mustard stems have been lightly stir-fried, add the sliced onion and carrot. Season with 1-2 pinches of salt. Mix everything well with a spatula and continue to stir-fry. Cooking over medium heat prevents the ingredients from burning and ensures they cook through evenly.
Step 6
Stir-fry until the onions become translucent, and the dish is almost ready. Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds. Stir well to combine. The nutty aroma of sesame oil and the texture of sesame seeds will enhance the flavor. Your delicious sea mustard stem stir-fry is now complete! Enjoy with a warm bowl of rice.
