  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Mixed (Bibim-style)
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 10 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 200g buckwheat noodles
  • 1 sheet roasted seaweed (gim)
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 Tbsp chopped scallions

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp plum extract (maesilcheong)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 6 Tbsp fragrant perilla oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Bring 1 liter of water to a rolling boil in a pot over high heat.

Step 1

Step 2

Once the water is boiling, add 200g of buckwheat noodles.

Step 2

Step 3

Gently stir the noodles with chopsticks to prevent them from sticking together, and cook for about 6 minutes. (Cooking times can vary by brand, so it’s best to check the package instructions.)

Step 3

Step 4

Drain the cooked buckwheat noodles in a colander. Rinse them thoroughly under cold running water to remove excess starch, then shake them well in the colander to drain any remaining water.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the drained buckwheat noodles in a large bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce.

Step 5

Step 6

Add 1 tablespoon of plum extract for sweetness and umami.

Step 6

Step 7

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to balance the sweet and sour flavors.

Step 7

Step 8

Now, add the star ingredient: 6 tablespoons of fragrant perilla oil. Top with the chopped scallions and gently mix everything together with your hands until well combined. (Adding perilla oil at the end helps preserve its aroma.)

Step 8

Step 9

While delicious as is, if you prefer a saucier noodle dish, you can lightly warm some stock (like anchovy and kelp broth) or dashi with katsuobushi, chill it, and pour a little over the noodles for an extra refreshing and deep flavor.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, crumble or shred the roasted seaweed and sprinkle generously with toasted sesame seeds for an even nuttier taste. Your delightful perilla oil buckwheat noodles are ready! Both kids and adults will love this dish.

Step 10

Step 11

Enjoy a healthy and happy day with this homemade meal. Bon appétit!
