- 3 Tbsp Water (to adjust sauce consistency)
- A pinch of Black Pepper
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to your spice preference)
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce (for extra umami!)
- 2.5 Tbsp Oligodang (Korean corn syrup, adjust sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp Mirin (rice wine, to remove any fishy smell)
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 3 Tbsp Water (to adjust sauce consistency)
- A pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces. Briefly blanching them in boiling water helps remove impurities and allows the sauce to penetrate better, making them more delicious! (Blanch for about 10 seconds). Wash and thinly julienne the onion and carrot.
Step 2
Now, let’s make the star of this delicious stir-fry: the sauce! In a bowl, combine 1.5 Tbsp Gochugaru, 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce, 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce, 2.5 Tbsp Oligodang, 1 Tbsp Mirin, 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic, 3 Tbsp Water, and a pinch of Black Pepper. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.
Step 3
Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium heat. Add the prepared fish cakes and stir-fry them briefly until they are lightly coated with oil, which gives them a chewier texture. Then, add the julienned onion and carrot, and sauté until the onions become translucent.
Step 4
Pour the prepared sauce over the vegetables and fish cakes. Reduce the heat to low and stir-fry gently, ensuring the sauce doesn’t burn. It’s important to let the sauce simmer and coat everything evenly. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your dish is ready!
Step 5
Here is your perfectly spicy and sweet Gochujang Fish Cake Stir-fry! It’s incredibly delicious served over a warm bowl of rice. It’s a fantastic side dish that’s easy to make, and even makes a great snack for kids. Enjoy your meal!
