My Little Old Boy, Trot Queen Kim Yeon-ja’s Secret Recipe! How to Make Delicious Kimchi Fried Rice
Introducing the special Kimchi Fried Rice recipe from trot queen Kim Yeon-ja, as featured on the TV show ‘My Little Old Boy’! This recipe, made together with Hong Jin-young during a segment revealing her glamorous dressing room, is easy and simple yet boasts a deep, savory flavor. Make sure to utilize your aged kimchi!
Ingredients- 2/3 bowl of freshly cooked warm rice
- 100g pork (ground or finely chopped)
- 1/2 cup aged kimchi (well-fermented)
- 1/4 cup scallion kimchi
- A small amount of radish kimchi (or other fresh kimchi)
- A little sesame oil
- A little cooking oil or butter
- A pinch of black pepper
- 2 slices of cheese
- A sprinkle of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The first step to enhancing the kimchi flavor! Take out the aged kimchi, scallion kimchi, and radish kimchi. Using scissors or a knife, finely chop all three types of kimchi into bite-sized pieces. If the kimchi is too sour, you can add a little sugar.
Step 2
Heat a frying pan with a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the prepared pork and stir-fry over high heat. Break up any clumps of meat as you stir-fry, and add a pinch of black pepper to eliminate any porky smell. (The broadcast also showed the use of ham or sausage, which can be used instead of pork for a delicious result.)
Step 3
Now for the highlight of the flavor! To the pan with the stir-fried pork, add all the finely chopped kimchi and stir-fry them together. It’s important to stir-fry until the kimchi is tender and fragrant. Next, add the warm rice and gently mix with a spatula, being careful not to mash the rice grains, until the kimchi and meat seasonings are evenly distributed.
Step 4
Make your delicious Kimchi Fried Rice even richer! Arrange the two slices of processed cheese attractively over the stir-fried rice. Immediately cover the pan with a lid and let it cook over low heat until the cheese is fully melted. Once the cheese has melted, turn off the heat, drizzle with sesame oil for a nutty aroma, and sprinkle with sesame seeds to finish.
Step 5
Serve the carefully prepared Kimchi Fried Rice beautifully on a plate to complete your dish! It tastes best served immediately while hot. Adding a fried egg on top will make it an even more wonderful meal.
