Aromatic Curry Rice Cakes on a Stick
Super Simple Late-Night Snack Recipe / Curry Rice Cakes Even Absolute Beginners Can Easily Make / Kids Love Them Too!
One night, I was incredibly hungry and craving something delicious. Rummaging through the fridge, I found some frozen tteokbokki rice cakes and curry powder. I thought, ‘Why not try making tteok-kkochi (rice cakes on a stick)?’ and gave it a shot. The result? Utterly satisfying!
Main Ingredients- 11 pieces of jeolpyeon (sliced to tteokbokki rice cake size)
- 1 packet of curry powder
- 11 wooden skewers
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Introducing the ‘Curry Tteok-kkochi,’ a recipe so simple that even absolute beginners can effortlessly make it. You only need curry powder, rice cakes, and skewers. Isn’t that easy?
Step 2
Since I didn’t have tteokbokki rice cakes, I sliced the jeolpyeon (a type of Korean rice cake) I had at home into pieces similar in size to tteokbokki rice cakes. Then, I carefully threaded 11 pieces onto each wooden skewer. It’s good to push them on firmly so they don’t fall off.
Step 3
You can use the curry powder directly from the packet or mix it with a little water to create a paste. Gently coat the rice cakes on the skewers with the curry paste, front and back. Make sure the paste isn’t too watery so it adheres well to the rice cakes. Now, we’ll grill the curry rice cakes until they’re golden brown and slightly crispy. You can use a frying pan or a grill rack. Cook over medium-low heat, flipping occasionally to prevent burning. Grilling over a rack adds a wonderful smoky flavor!
Step 4
Voila! Your delicious-looking curry rice cakes are ready to be enjoyed. They taste best when eaten warm right after cooking.
Step 5
Isn’t it amazing how such delicious results can be achieved with simple, everyday ingredients? The chewy texture of the rice cakes combined with the rich, aromatic, and slightly savory curry powder creates a truly irresistible ‘Curry Tteok-kkochi’! Perfect for a quick and tasty late-night snack. It’s also a fantastic pairing with a cold glass of beer! ^^
