  • 10g Dried Seaweed
  • 2 Tbsp Perilla Seed Powder

Seasonings

  • 1 Tbsp Soup Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Fish Sauce (e.g., Anchovy or Sand Lance)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Tuna Extract

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 10g of dried seaweed. Soak it in cold water for about 10-15 minutes until fully rehydrated. Then, rinse it thoroughly by rubbing it under running water, and squeeze out any excess moisture. Heat a generous amount of perilla oil in a pot over medium-low heat.

Before stir-frying the seaweed, add 0.5 Tbsp of minced garlic to the pot with the perilla oil and sauté until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic by managing the heat appropriately.

Now, add the squeezed seaweed to the pot with the sautéed garlic and stir-fry together for 2-3 minutes. Stir-frying the seaweed in perilla oil will make it softer and enhance its nutty flavor.

Once the seaweed is sufficiently stir-fried, add 1 Tbsp of soup soy sauce, 1 Tbsp of fish sauce, and 1 Tbsp of tuna extract. Stir-fry everything together for about 1 minute until the seasonings are well incorporated into the seaweed. Next, add 2 Tbsp of perilla seed powder and stir gently once more. Adding perilla seed powder will make the soup even more savory.

Pour an adequate amount of boiling water into the pot with the stir-fried ingredients. For about 4-5 servings, around 700-800ml is generally good, but you can adjust this based on your desired consistency. Once the soup comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes to ensure the seaweed is tender. Finally, taste the soup and adjust the seasoning with more soup soy sauce or salt if needed, to your preference. Enjoy your delicious and hearty Perilla Seed and Seaweed Soup!
