Here’s a recipe for Cheese Potato Pancakes! These pancakes are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, packed with savory cheddar cheese. Using pre-steamed potatoes makes them extra soft and incredibly easy to prepare. They’re perfect as a snack for kids or an appetizer for adults!

  • 150g Steamed Potato
  • 1 slice Cheddar Cheese
  • 0.2 Tbsp Salt (a pinch)
  • 1 Tbsp Frying Mix (Tempura Flour)
  • 70ml Water
  • Vegetable Oil, as needed

Cooking Instructions

Let’s start making delicious cheese potato pancakes! First, prepare 150g of steamed potato. Using a fork or a masher, mash the steamed potato until it’s completely smooth with no lumps. Mashing the potato while it’s still warm will make it even smoother.

Add about 0.2 Tbsp of salt to the mashed potato to season it evenly. You can adjust the amount of salt to your taste.

Add 1 Tbsp of frying mix (tempura flour) to make the pancake batter extra crispy. You can also use pancake mix if you prefer.

Gradually add about 70ml of water while mixing to achieve the right batter consistency. It shouldn’t be too thin; the batter should be thick enough to hold its shape when poured into the pan.

Now it’s time to cook the potato pancakes! Heat a frying pan over medium heat, then add a generous amount of vegetable oil. Ensure the pan is well-heated to prevent the pancakes from sticking and to achieve a crispy texture.

Ladle portions of the batter onto the hot pan and reduce the heat to low-medium. Cook slowly, allowing the pancakes to turn a golden brown color on both sides. Patience is key for a perfectly cooked pancake.

Once one side of the potato pancake is golden brown, flip it and cook the other side until it’s also golden. After both sides are nicely browned, reduce the heat to low. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the pancake and immediately cover the pan with a lid. Cook until the cheese melts smoothly. Once the cheese is fully melted, transfer the delicious cheese potato pancake to a plate and enjoy!
