Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Whelks (including juice)
  • 1 serving Somyeon noodles

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the canned whelks. Drain the whelks from the can and set aside the juice, as it will be used for the dressing.

Step 2

Next, prepare the vegetables. Wash the cucumber thoroughly, cut it in half, remove the seeds, and slice thinly. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Remove the stems from the Korean green chili peppers and chop them finely. Feel free to add more chilies if you like it spicier.

Step 3

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the somyeon noodles and cook until al dente. Rinse the cooked noodles under cold water to remove excess starch and drain well. You can toss them lightly with a bit of olive oil or sesame oil to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Place the drained whelks in a mixing bowl. Add the dressing ingredients: 3 tablespoons of gochugaru, 4 tablespoons of vinegar, and 2 tablespoons of oligodang. Mix well to create the dressing.

Step 5

Now, add all the prepared vegetables to the bowl with the whelks. Gently mix and toss everything together with your hands until the dressing is evenly distributed. Be careful not to mix too vigorously, as this can break apart the whelks.

Step 6

Finally, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Gently toss one more time to incorporate the finishing flavors and aroma.

Step 7

Transfer the whelk salad to a serving plate. If there is any remaining dressing, you can toss the cooked somyeon noodles in it for an even more satisfying dish.

Step 8

Arrange the whelk salad and the dressed somyeon noodles attractively on the plate to complete the dish. Enjoy your delicious whelk salad with noodles!
