Savory & Sweet Stir-Fried Dried Shredded Cuttlefish: Quick Side Dish & Beer Snack Ready!
How to Make Stir-Fried Dried Shredded Cuttlefish: Easy Homemade Side Dish Recipe
When you have no side dishes at home, I plan to make stir-fried dried shredded cuttlefish using cuttlefish I intended for a beer snack.
Main Ingredients- Dried Shredded Cuttlefish (Gwipo-chae) 2 sheets
- Minced Garlic 0.5 tsp
- Toasted Sesame Seeds 1 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the dried cuttlefish. Use scissors or a knife to cut the dried cuttlefish into bite-sized strips, about 2-3 cm wide, suitable for children and adults. Cutting them too small might cause them to crumble during cooking, so aim for a moderate size.
Step 2
Place the cuttlefish strips in a dry, preheated pan without any oil. Stir-fry over low heat, ensuring they don’t burn. Dry-frying removes some of the cuttlefish’s natural oils, making it lighter and enhancing its chewy texture. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes.
Step 3
Transfer the stir-fried cuttlefish strips from the pan to a separate bowl to cool slightly. Letting them cool while still a bit warm helps the seasoning to absorb better later on.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to season the cuttlefish. Prepare 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of sugar. If you prefer a sweeter taste, feel free to increase the sugar amount. Start with this ratio and adjust to your preference later for a perfect result.
Step 5
Return the pan to medium heat and add about 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, add 0.5 teaspoon of minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Be careful not to overcook the garlic, as it can burn easily.
Step 6
As the garlic begins to turn golden brown, reduce the heat to low. Pour the 2 tablespoons of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. The soy sauce will lightly bubble and release its aroma with the heat of the pan.
Step 7
Once the soy sauce and garlic start to meld, immediately turn off the heat. Then, tilt the pan or use a spatula to swirl the sauce around. This process ensures the sauce evenly coats the cuttlefish without burning, using the residual heat.
Step 8
Add the stir-fried and slightly cooled cuttlefish strips back into the pan. Quickly toss them to coat evenly with the sauce. Cooking off the heat with residual warmth helps prevent the cuttlefish from becoming too tough.
Step 9
Finally, sprinkle generously with 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds for added nutty flavor. Give it another quick toss to incorporate the sesame seeds. Your delicious stir-fried dried shredded cuttlefish is now ready!
Step 10
This quickly made stir-fried dried shredded cuttlefish is delicious served over warm rice or enjoyed as a perfect accompaniment to a cold beer. It’s a flavor loved by everyone, so be sure to give it a try!
