Crispy Air Fryer Nurungji Snacks
Nostalgic Ramen Snacks & Nurungji Crisps Made Easy in the Air Fryer
Remember those delicious ramen snacks and crispy fried nurungji (scorched rice) your mom used to make as a treat? Now you can recreate them at home with your air fryer! While deep-fried versions are undeniably tasty, this air fryer method offers an incredibly satisfying crunch while being a healthier option. Perfect for a quick snack anytime!
Ingredients- 1/2 packet of instant ramen noodles
- Nurungji (scorched rice crust), as needed
- Olive oil, generously
- Ramen soup powder (to taste)
- Xylose sugar (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, place the nurungji pieces into a large resealable plastic bag. Drizzle a generous amount of olive oil over the nurungji, ensuring it’s lightly coated. Seal the bag tightly and gently shake it to distribute the oil evenly over all the nurungji pieces. This step is key for achieving a super crispy texture when air-fried.
Step 2
Arrange the oil-coated nurungji in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Air fry at 200°C (390°F) for 3 minutes. Then, flip the nurungji and air fry for another 2 minutes. (Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model, so keep an eye on it to ensure it turns golden brown and crispy. This duration usually works perfectly.)
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the ramen noodles. Since they can be fragile, carefully break the ramen block in half, then cut each half into two pieces, resulting in about 4 bite-sized portions. Place these ramen pieces into the air fryer and air fry at 200°C (390°F) for 3 minutes. Flip them over and air fry for an additional 3 minutes until they are nicely golden and crispy, resembling fried noodles.
Step 4
Similar to the nurungji, place the crispy fried ramen pieces into another resealable plastic bag. Sprinkle the ramen soup powder over the noodles and shake the bag well to ensure the powder is evenly distributed. This creates your delicious ramen snack! If you find the ramen powder too salty or prefer a different flavor, you can skip it and dip the crispy ramen in mayonnaise – it’s surprisingly delicious and a great alternative!
