Spicy Tuna Rice Balls (Gochu Chamchi Jumeokbap)
How to Make Spicy Tuna Rice Balls
Made delicious rice balls with spicy tuna.
Ingredients- 2 bowls of cooked rice
- 150g canned spicy tuna
- 4 Tbsp furikake (rice seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil (deul-gireum)
- A little roasted or seasoned seaweed (kim)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your ingredients. If you don’t have furikake, you can use crumbled seaweed (kim garu) you might have at home. If you don’t have either, it’s okay to omit them. If you are omitting furikake or seaweed, lightly season the rice with a pinch of salt to prevent it from tasting bland.
Step 2
Drain the canned spicy tuna thoroughly by pressing it against a sieve or using your hands. Excess oil can make the rice balls mushy and difficult to shape properly.
Step 3
In a bowl with the warm cooked rice, add the drained spicy tuna and furikake (or seaweed flakes). Drizzle in the perilla oil. Gently mix everything together with a spatula or spoon, being careful not to mash the rice grains. Ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 4
Now it’s time to shape the rice balls. If you have a triangular rice ball mold, it’s a convenient tool to use. If you don’t have a mold, don’t worry! You can shape them perfectly well with your hands. Simply press the rice firmly with your palms to form the desired shape.
Step 5
If using a triangular mold: place about one-third of the rice mixture into the mold, then add a portion of the drained spicy tuna on top. Cover with the remaining rice mixture and close the lid. Press down firmly to compact the rice and create a solid shape.
Step 6
Prepare small pieces of roasted or seasoned seaweed (kim) to wrap the rice balls. Cutting them to match the size of your rice ball mold will result in a neater and more attractive presentation.
Step 7
Finally, wrap the shaped rice balls with the prepared seaweed pieces. Covering them with seaweed not only helps the rice balls hold their shape and prevents them from falling apart easily but also makes them easier to handle and more appealing to eat. Enjoy your delicious spicy tuna rice balls!
