Main Ingredients

  • 4 sheets of square fish cakes (eomuk)
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1/4 medium carrot
  • 1 handful of green onions

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Mastering the fish cake stir-fry is easier than you think! I’ll show you how to make it incredibly tender, moist, and flavorful, just like the first bite. This is guaranteed to become a family favorite.

Step 1

Step 2

First, cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces or your desired shape. Stir-frying them while they’re warm helps them stay soft. Slice the onion into thick strips.

Step 2

Step 3

Slice the green onions diagonally. This cutting method allows their aroma to beautifully meld with the seasoning, enhancing the overall flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Cut the carrot into strips, similar in size to the onion. Adding carrots not only adds a vibrant color but also a delightful crunchy texture.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced green onions, stirring gently until fragrant and lightly golden. You’ll notice a wonderful aroma developing.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the aromatics are fragrant, add the cut fish cakes, onion, and carrot to the pan. Stir in 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 tsp gochujang, 1 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir-fry over high heat for a minute or two until the seasoning coats everything evenly and the vegetables start to soften slightly. Be careful not to burn the sauce. Just before it’s done, add 1-2 tablespoons of water to make the fish cakes extra moist and glossy.

Step 6

Step 7

As the sauce reduces, the fish cakes will absorb all the delicious flavors, becoming slightly plump and then returning to their original shape. This process ensures a wonderfully seasoned and textured dish. This fish cake stir-fry is delicious served warm and equally amazing when cooled, making it an ideal choice for packed lunches!
