Main Ingredients

  • Fresh Beef (Eye of Round recommended) 2 cups
  • Plump Shrimp Meat 1 cup
  • Colorful Bell Peppers 2 (using various colors makes it more appealing)
  • Crisp Cabbage 1/5 head
  • Sweet Onion 2/3 medium
  • Crunchy Cucumber 1
  • Sweet & Tangy Canned Pineapple 3 slices
  • Fragrant Perilla Leaves (Shiso) 1 bunch
  • Crunchy Carrot 1 handful
  • Rice Paper Wrappers (for Vietnamese rolls)
  • Warm Water (for softening rice paper)
  • Your favorite store-bought sauce (Chili or Peanut Sauce)

Beef Marinade

  • Soy Sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Oyster Sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Minced Garlic 2/3 Tbsp
  • Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Mirin (Rice Wine) 1 Tbsp
  • Toasted Sesame Seeds, a pinch
  • Sugar 1/2 Tbsp

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash all the ingredients for your Vietnamese rolls thoroughly. Pat them dry and prepare to slice them into bite-sized pieces.

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, sesame oil, mirin, sugar, and toasted sesame seeds with the prepared beef. Mix well to ensure the marinade coats the meat evenly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. This step tenderizes the beef and infuses it with flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Briefly blanch the shrimp meat in boiling water for about 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough. Thinly slice the onion and soak it in cold water for about 10 minutes to remove its strong flavor, making it sweeter and crisper.

Step 3

Step 4

Core and deseed the colorful bell peppers, then slice them into thin strips. Using a variety of colors will make your rolls visually appealing.

Step 4

Step 5

Remove the core from the cabbage and slice it thinly into strips. The crisp texture of the cabbage adds a wonderful crunch to the rolls.

Step 5

Step 6

Wash the fresh cucumber, and either peel it or leave the skin on. Slice it into thin strips. The refreshing coolness of the cucumber cleanses the palate.

Step 6

Step 7

Wash the fragrant perilla leaves and pat them dry. Stack them, roll them up tightly, and slice them into thin ribbons. The unique aroma of perilla leaves will enhance the overall flavor of the rolls.

Step 7

Step 8

Cut the canned pineapple slices into bite-sized pieces. The sweet and tangy flavor of pineapple cuts through any richness and creates a fantastic combination with the other ingredients.

Step 8

Step 9

Heat a pan over high heat and quickly stir-fry the marinated beef. Cooking beef over high heat for a short time helps to retain its juices and ensures a tender texture. It’s already seasoned, so it tastes incredibly delicious as is! 😋

Step 9

Step 10

Now, arrange all the prepared ingredients beautifully on serving plates. The vibrant colors of the vegetables will be very appetizing. 🌈

Step 10

Step 11

Prepare a bowl of warm water. Dip one rice paper wrapper at a time into the warm water until it becomes soft and pliable. Place your desired fillings – fresh vegetables, cooked beef, shrimp – onto the softened wrapper and roll it up tightly. Dip into your favorite store-bought sauce and enjoy this delightful meal! This is true comfort food. ❤️

Step 11

Step 12

Once you start rolling, you won’t be able to stop! Make your rolls as big as you like and enjoy them to your heart’s content. You can eat as many as you want without feeling stuffed – they just keep coming! The process of rolling itself is also fun.
