The Secret to Boiling Potatoes for a Delicious, White-Powdered Texture
Freshly harvested potatoes are arguably at their most delicious when simply boiled! If you’re aiming for that delightful white powder coating, follow these simple steps! This method guarantees delicious boiled potatoes every time.
Ingredients- 5 Potatoes (Extra large size)
- 1/2 Tbsp Coarse Salt
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- Water (enough to just cover half of the potatoes)

Step 1
First, wash the fresh potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Then, use a peeler or a knife to neatly peel the skin off the potatoes. Peeled potatoes can be used immediately or submerged in water briefly to prevent browning.

Prepare a pot of an appropriate size and place the peeled potatoes in it. Add water until it just covers about half of the potatoes. To season the potatoes while boiling and enhance their flavor, add 1/2 tablespoon of coarse salt and 1 tablespoon of sugar. The sugar helps to bring out the natural sweetness of the potatoes and also aids in achieving that desirable white, powdery coating when peeled.
Step 3
Cover the pot with a lid and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once the water starts boiling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium. This gentle boiling process ensures that the potatoes cook evenly and thoroughly from the inside out.

After reducing the heat to medium, let the potatoes cook for about 10 minutes. Once this time has passed, gently shake the pot by its handles or use a chopstick to carefully turn the potatoes over. This action ensures that all sides of the potatoes are exposed to the heat and cook uniformly.
