Mini Gimbap Filling Ingredients

  • 2 bowls warm cooked rice
  • 3 sheets of gimbap seaweed (kim)
  • 2 grilled frankfurter sausages
  • 150g pickled radish (danmuji)
  • 150g braised burdock root
  • 150g stir-fried carrots
  • 2 Tbsp rice ball powder or furikake
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

The Perfect Dipping Sauce: Mustard Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 0.5 Tbsp corn syrup or honey
  • 0.5 Tbsp prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar

Cooking Instructions

First, let’s prepare the fillings that will make our mini gimbap so delicious. Cut the pickled radish, braised burdock root, stir-fried carrots, and frankfurter sausages into thin strips of similar length. This uniform cutting will make rolling the gimbap much easier and neater.

Now, let’s cook some of the filling ingredients to enhance their flavor. Heat a pan and grill the frankfurter sausages until lightly browned and fragrant. This brings out their savory taste and makes the gimbap even more delicious. For the carrots, add a little cooking oil to the pan, season lightly with salt, and stir-fry until they are tender-crisp. Their natural sweetness will complement the other ingredients beautifully.

All the ingredients are now prepped and ready to go! Having everything neatly arranged makes the next step, rolling the gimbap, a breeze and quite enjoyable.

Time to make the star of the show – the zesty mustard dipping sauce! In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, water, corn syrup (or honey), prepared mustard, and vinegar. Whisk everything together until the sweetener is fully dissolved. You can adjust the amount of mustard to your preference for a more or less pungent kick. This sauce is key to cutting through the richness and adding a delightful tang.

Let’s season the rice for our mini gimbap. In a mixing bowl, place the 2 bowls of warm cooked rice. Add the rice ball powder (or furikake) and the sesame oil. Starting from the bottom edge, roll the seaweed tightly to form a neat mini gimbap roll.
