That’s when this ‘Dumpling and Chive Fried Rice’ comes in handy! It’s packed with umami flavor and has a taste that will have you coming back for more. It’s a fantastic way to use up those lingering dumplings and vegetables for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients- 5 dumplings (thawed)
- 20g chives
- 1 stalk green part of scallion
- 1/2 stalk white part of scallion
- 1 bowl cooked rice
- 1 egg
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 4 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 pinch dried seaweed flakes (gim)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, ensure your frozen dumplings are completely thawed. If they are frozen, let them sit at room temperature or use your microwave’s defrost setting until they are soft.
Step 2
Once thawed, carefully mince the dumplings, including the wrappers, into very small pieces. Mincing them finely will help them incorporate better with the rice.
Step 3
Finely mince the scallions as well, similar to the size of the minced dumplings. Using both the green and white parts will maximize their flavor.
Step 4
Wash the fresh chives thoroughly, pat them dry, and then finely chop them. Your basic ingredient preparation is now complete!
Step 5
Now, let’s get cooking! Heat 4 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced scallions and minced garlic.
Step 6
Sauté the scallions and garlic over low heat until they become fragrant and start to sizzle gently, about 1 minute. Be careful not to burn them.
Step 7
Once the aroma of scallions and garlic is released, add the minced dumplings to the pan and increase the heat to medium. Stir-fry the dumplings.
Step 8
Stir-fry the dumplings evenly for about 2 minutes. Since the dumplings are already thawed, you don’t need to cook them for too long; just long enough to heat through and release their savory flavor into the oil.
Step 9
After 2 minutes, push the cooked ingredients to one side of the pan, creating a clear space in the center.
Step 10
Crack one fresh egg directly into the empty space in the pan.
Step 11
Immediately scramble the egg using your spatula or a fork until it’s cooked through but still soft. Don’t overcook it.
Step 12
Once the scrambled egg is cooked, gently mix it with the dumpling mixture that you pushed to the side.
Step 13
Add one bowl of cooked rice to the pan. If the rice is clumpy, break it up with your spoon as you add it.
Step 14
Stir-fry everything together evenly for about 1 minute, ensuring the rice is well combined with the other ingredients.
Step 15
Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce to enhance the umami flavor. Drizzle it around the edges of the pan for better caramelization.
Step 16
Stir-fry once more to ensure the oyster sauce is well distributed throughout the fried rice. Taste the rice at this point. The dumplings and oyster sauce already provide some saltiness, but it’s always good to check and adjust if needed.
Step 17
After tasting, turn off the heat. Immediately add the chopped chives to the pan. Chives cook very quickly and can lose their vibrant color and fragrance if cooked over direct heat. Adding them at the end preserves their freshness.
Step 18
If you found the fried rice to be a bit bland after tasting, add a tiny pinch of salt now. Be cautious with the amount.
Step 19
Add a pinch of black pepper for extra flavor. Pepper really elevates the taste of fried rice.
Step 20
Toss gently for about 30 seconds using the residual heat from the pan. This allows the chives to wilt slightly and meld with the other flavors without losing their freshness.
Step 21
Transfer the fried rice to a serving plate. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of dried seaweed flakes (gim) on top for garnish and extra flavor.
Step 22
Voila! Your delicious Dumpling and Chive Fried Rice is ready. Enjoy this hearty and flavorful meal!
