Essential Ingredients

  • Pork hind leg slices 200g
  • Bean sprouts 120g
  • Onion 60g
  • Shiitake mushrooms 2 ea
  • Sweet potato 1/2 ea
  • Carrot 50g
  • Scallions for garnish, a little

Seasoning Sauce Ingredients

  • Soy sauce 5 Tbsp
  • Vinegar 2 Tbsp
  • Brown sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Cheongyang chili pepper 1 ea
  • Minced garlic 1/4 Tbsp
  • Coarse gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 3g

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables. Remove the tough stems from the shiitake mushrooms, wash them under running water, and slice them thinly. Peel the sweet potato, carrot, and onion, then julienne them finely. Finely chop the Cheongyang chili pepper and scallions.

Step 1

Step 2

In a large bowl, combine the bean sprouts, julienned onion, shiitake mushrooms, sweet potato, and carrot. Mix them gently by hand to create a vegetable medley. Pre-mixing makes steaming easier.

Step 2

Step 3

In a small bowl, combine all the seasoning sauce ingredients: soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, chopped Cheongyang chili pepper, minced garlic, and coarse gochugaru. Stir well with a spoon to create a flavorful sauce.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare your steamer. Fill the steamer pot with water and place the steaming rack on top. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat, ensuring plenty of steam is generated. Check to make sure there’s enough water during cooking.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, let’s assemble the dish for steaming. On the plate that will go into the steamer, layer the mixed vegetables first. Then, arrange the pork hind leg slices attractively on top of the vegetables, creating distinct layers. Stack them so the meat and vegetables are beautifully presented.

Step 5

Step 6

Carefully place the layered plate onto the steaming rack in the preheated steamer. Cover with the lid and steam over high heat for about 7 minutes. Ensure the pork is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.

Step 6

Step 7

Once steaming is complete, carefully remove the plate from the steamer. Garnish the hot, freshly steamed dish with the chopped scallions, and serve with the delicious seasoning sauce you prepared. Enjoy your healthy and satisfying Yukchaemi!
