  • Occasion : Lunchbox

  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 2 bowls of warm cooked rice
  • 12-16 fresh lettuce leaves
  • 150-180g of seasoned and stir-fried bulgogi (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • A little sesame seeds for garnish
  • Ssamjang (Korean dipping paste) to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the rice. Finely chop the stir-fried bulgogi into bite-sized pieces. In a bowl, combine the warm rice (2 bowls), chopped bulgogi, 2 tablespoons of sesame oil, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Mix everything thoroughly. If it tastes a bit bland, add a pinch of salt. You can adjust the salt based on the seasoning of the bulgogi.

Step 1

Step 2

Shape the prepared rice mixture into small, round patties. Make them about bite-sized so they are easy to wrap in lettuce. For a fun touch with kids’ lunchboxes, consider using shaped molds.

Step 2

Step 3

Wash the fresh lettuce leaves thoroughly and pat them dry completely. Any remaining moisture can make the rice soggy. Place a rice patty onto a lettuce leaf. Carefully fold the lettuce to enclose the rice, almost like a flower blooming. Tuck the edges of the lettuce inward to secure the rice and prevent it from falling out.

Step 3

Step 4

Arrange the beautifully crafted lettuce wraps neatly in your lunchbox. Packing them snugly will prevent them from shifting during transport.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, pack some ssamjang to enjoy with the wraps. You can use any type of ssamjang you prefer, whether store-bought or homemade. For an extra flavor boost, mix in a little sesame oil and minced garlic into your ssamjang!
