Crispy Cereal French Toast

This is a French toast recipe that my two sons absolutely love. They usually eat cereal with milk for their diet, but today, I’m using that cereal to make crispy and delicious French toast. It’s perfect for a simple yet special breakfast or snack!

Essential Ingredients

  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 egg
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 3 drops of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 handful of your favorite cereal

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, place the prepared cereal in a zip-top bag or plastic bag and crush it with your hands. Crushing it so it’s not too fine, with some chunks remaining, will give it a better texture.

Spread the crushed cereal onto a wide plate or bowl so it can be evenly coated onto the bread.

In a bowl, crack the egg, add the milk, a pinch of salt, 3 drops of vanilla extract, and 1/2 tsp sugar. Whisk everything together with a whisk until well combined to create the egg mixture. Whisk thoroughly until all ingredients are smoothly incorporated.

Dip the slice of bread into the prepared egg mixture, coating both sides thoroughly. It’s good to let the bread soak for a moment so it absorbs the egg mixture nicely.

Completely coat both sides of the egg-dipped bread with the crushed cereal. Gently press the cereal onto the bread to help it adhere well.

Melt 2 cubes of unsalted butter (salted butter is also fine) in a pan over medium-low heat. Once the butter is melted, place the bread in the pan and ensure each side comes into contact with about 2 cubes of butter. (Be mindful of the heat to prevent the bread from burning and add more butter if needed.)

Reduce the heat to low and cook the toast until the inside is moist and fluffy. Cover the pan and let it cook for about 5 minutes, then remove the lid and continue to cook until the outside is extra crispy.

Stand the toast up and toast the sides evenly for an even crispier and more delicious French toast experience. Cook until golden brown all over.

Serve the perfectly cooked French toast on a nice enamel plate. Drizzle with maple syrup or honey to enjoy its sweetness!
