Savory Bacon and Shiitake Mushroom Stir-Fry

Today, we’re making Bacon Shiitake Mushroom Stir-Fry for a delicious side dish. I had some shiitake mushrooms in the fridge, just the right amount for stir-frying. Since my mother loves bacon, I decided to add some to the dish. Incorporating bacon into shiitake mushroom stir-fry makes it incredibly appealing, even for children. While some kids might pick out the bacon, I found myself drawn to the mushrooms! The bacon itself is pleasantly salty, making the seasoning just right. Let me share how to make this delightful Bacon Shiitake Mushroom Stir-Fry right away.

Recipe Info

  • Category : Side dish
  • Ingredient Category : Mushrooms
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 8 shiitake mushrooms
  • 8 strips of bacon
  • 1/2 green onion (scallion)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/3 carrot

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables. Slice the green onion in half lengthwise, then cut it into approximately 0.3cm thick pieces. This thickness will ensure a pleasant texture after stir-frying.

Step 1

Step 2

Slice the onion into strips about 0.3cm thick, similar to the green onion. Cutting them slightly thicker prevents them from becoming too soft during cooking and preserves their sweetness and texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Cut the carrot into strips about 0.3cm thick as well. Carrots take a bit longer to cook, so slicing them thinly ensures they cook evenly with the other ingredients and add a beautiful color to the dish.

Step 3

Step 4

Trim the stems from the shiitake mushrooms. Slice the mushroom caps into pieces about 0.5cm thick, depending on their size. Thicker slices will provide a more satisfying chewy texture.

Step 4

Step 5

Cut the bacon into pieces about 2cm wide. Avoid cutting it too small, as it can break apart during cooking. These pieces will offer a good bite and release plenty of flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, let’s start cooking. Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a preheated pan over medium heat. Add the sliced green onion and 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, and stir-fry until fragrant. Cook until the green onion becomes translucent and you can smell the garlic.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the aroma of the green onion and garlic is released, add the cut bacon to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat until the bacon is lightly browned and crispy. You’ll notice the bacon rendering its delicious fat as it cooks.

Step 7

Step 8

When the bacon is cooked to your liking, add the sliced onion, carrot, and shiitake mushrooms. Pour in 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, which is key for flavor. Stir-fry over high heat, ensuring everything is well combined. It’s important to stir-fry quickly to keep the vegetables crisp-tender.

Step 8

Step 9

Once all the ingredients are cooked through and the flavors have melded beautifully, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Stir briefly just to incorporate the sesame oil; avoid overcooking at this stage to preserve its fresh, nutty aroma.

Step 9

Step 10

Turn off the heat and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds over the stir-fry. The nutty flavor and texture of the sesame seeds add a wonderful finishing touch. Serve this delicious dish over freshly steamed rice for a truly satisfying meal!
