Main Ingredients- 1/2 boneless mackerel fillet
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 large leaves of crisp lettuce
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
Tangy Dressing- 1/3 Tbsp Dijon mustard (or whole grain mustard)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey, adjust to taste)
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1/3 Tbsp Dijon mustard (or whole grain mustard)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey, adjust to taste)
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp minced garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly pat the boneless mackerel fillet dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Then, cut the fillet into approximately 1cm thick pieces for easy eating.
Step 2
Place the 3 tablespoons of flour into a resealable plastic bag. Add the cut mackerel pieces and seal the bag. Gently shake the bag to evenly coat the mackerel with flour. This coating will ensure a crispier and more flavorful finish when fried.
Step 3
Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Carefully place the floured mackerel pieces into the hot oil. Fry them until golden brown and cooked through, flipping occasionally. While the mackerel is frying, wash and prepare your lettuce and measure out the dressing ingredients to save time.
Step 4
Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly. Use about 3 large, crisp leaves, rinsing them under cold running water 2-3 times. After washing, place the lettuce on a colander to drain completely. Ensuring the lettuce is dry prevents the salad from becoming watery and maintains its refreshing crunch.
Step 5
In a small bowl, combine the dressing ingredients: 1/3 Tbsp Dijon mustard, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, 2 Tbsp vinegar, and 1 tsp minced garlic. Whisk vigorously with a fork or small whisk until well combined and smooth. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less corn syrup according to your preference.
Step 6
Arrange the well-drained lettuce leaves on your serving plate. Tear them into bite-sized pieces for easy consumption. The fresh greens will form a vibrant base for the salad.
Step 7
Place the beautifully fried mackerel pieces on top of the lettuce. Drizzle generously with the prepared tangy dressing. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for an extra nutty flavor and appealing visual finish. Your delicious and healthy mackerel salad is now ready to be enjoyed!
