Super Easy Bread Rusks Made in the Air Fryer at Home

Nostalgic Taste! Crispy Air Fryer Bread Rusks

Do you happen to have leftover bread at home and want to cook something with it? In my house, we always seem to run out! I often have bread for one of my meals, so there’s rarely any leftover. Even when making delicious snacks like these bread rusks, bread is precious! Do you remember a snack called ‘Mat-cham’ sold at middle school snack bars? It’s discontinued now, so you can’t buy it, but I decided to make it myself as I suddenly missed its taste. Using an air fryer, you can perfectly recreate that nostalgic taste – crispy on the outside, sweet on the inside!

Recipe Info

  • Category : Bread
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Snack
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Essential Ingredients

  • 3 slices of bread
  • 30g butter
  • 2-3 Tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 3 slices of bread. We’ll cut them into long, bite-sized pieces. Slicing them about 1.5 cm thick will help them cook evenly in the air fryer.

Step 1

Step 2

Take 30g of butter and place it in the microwave. Heat for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until completely melted. Be careful not to burn the butter; you want it in a liquid state.

Step 2

Step 3

Pour the melted butter into a wide dish. Dip each slice of bread into the butter, coating both sides evenly. You can use a pastry brush, but dipping it directly into the dish like this is much faster and more convenient.

Step 3

Step 4

Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and arrange the buttered bread slices without overlapping. Preheat your air fryer to 180℃ (350℉) and cook for 5 minutes to start. (Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model.)

Step 4

Step 5

After 5 minutes, take out the basket. The top side of the bread should be golden brown, but the bottom might still be a bit soft. If you hadn’t used parchment paper, the bottom might have become crispier.

Step 5

Step 6

Flip all the bread slices over and return them to the air fryer. Cook again at 180℃ (350℉) for another 5 minutes. This will ensure your bread rusks are perfectly crispy on both sides.

Step 6

Step 7

Place the cooked rusks into a large plastic bag. Add 2-3 tablespoons of sugar (or to your preference). Seal the bag tightly and shake well to coat the rusks evenly with sugar. See how easy and quick it is to make delicious bread rusks? They’re ready to be enjoyed immediately!
