Spicy and Refreshing Mussel Soup
Mussel Soup with a Comforting, Deep Broth
Tonight, we’re making a special dish for the whole family to enjoy! This refreshing mussel soup has a wonderfully warm broth that will invigorate your senses. It’s simple yet packed with rich umami flavor, making it perfect as a hangover cure. Let me share this wonderful recipe, ideal for a cozy family dinner.
Main Ingredients- 1 pack of fresh mussels (approx. 500g)
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
- 3 Korean green peppers (cheongyang chili)
- 5 cloves of garlic
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the mussels. Scrub any dirt or barnacles off the mussel shells thoroughly. Rinse them under cold running water multiple times to remove any sand or debris. Drain them well after cleaning.
Step 2
Place all the cleaned mussels into a pot. Add just enough water so the mussels are partially submerged. Adding too much water can dilute the delicate, briny flavor of the mussels, so it’s important to use the right amount. Bring to a boil over high heat.
Step 3
While the mussels are cooking, let’s prepare the aromatics. Slice the green onion diagonally into large pieces. Finely chop the Korean green peppers for a touch of heat. Lightly smash the garlic cloves with the side of a knife, or slice them thinly – this will help their flavor infuse into the broth.
Step 4
Once the mussels in the pot begin to open and release steam, add the prepared green onions, green peppers, and garlic. After adding the vegetables, don’t overcook. Simmer for just another 1-2 minutes to allow the fresh flavors of the vegetables and the natural sweetness of the mussels to meld beautifully.
Step 5
And there you have it – a delicious mussel soup is ready! With its clear, refreshing broth and tender mussels, you’ve created a simple yet impressive dish. Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice, or as a perfect accompaniment to your favorite beverage!
