Main Ingredients

  • 3 sausages (choose according to preference)
  • 1/2 onion (cut into large pieces)
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, 1/2 red bell pepper (using different colors makes it visually appealing)
  • 3 button mushrooms (slice into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil (for coating the pan)
  • 1/3 tsp sesame seeds (for garnish)

Spicy and Sweet Soya Golden Sauce

  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste – the base for spiciness)
  • 2 Tbsp BBQ sauce (adds depth of flavor)
  • 1/2 Tbsp sugar (adjust sweetness)
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup (adds sweet and sour notes)
  • 1 Tbsp water (to adjust sauce consistency)
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic (enhances flavor!)
  • 1 Tbsp minced chili (adds spiciness; use Cheongyang chili for extra heat!)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the vegetables and sausages. Cut the onion, bell peppers, and mushrooms into bite-sized pieces, about 2cm square. For the sausages, cut them into similar sizes and then score the surfaces with a cross cut. This helps the sauce penetrate better and makes them look appealing when cooked.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s make the spicy and sweet sauce that will define the flavor of your Soya. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp gochujang, 2 Tbsp BBQ sauce, 1/2 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp water, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 Tbsp minced chili for that extra kick. Mix everything thoroughly until smooth. Feel free to adjust the sweetness and spiciness to your liking.

Step 2

Step 3

It’s time to prepare the pan. Heat a pan over high heat for about 3 minutes until well preheated. Then, add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil and reduce the heat to medium. Add the prepared sausages and stir-fry them for about 3 minutes until they are lightly browned and fragrant. This step really brings out the delicious flavor of the sausages.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the sausages are nicely browned, add all the colorful prepared vegetables to the pan. Toss in the onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Stir-fry over high heat for about 2 minutes. The key here is to cook the vegetables quickly to maintain their crisp texture while allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, pour the prepared spicy and sweet sauce over everything in the pan. Stir quickly to ensure the sauce coats the vegetables and sausages evenly. Continue to stir-fry over medium-high heat until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the ingredients beautifully, creating a glossy and appetizing sausage and vegetable stir-fry.

Step 5

Step 6

Transfer the finished Soya to a serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds for a final touch of nutty flavor and visual appeal. The satisfying pop of the sausages combined with the crunchy vegetables and the irresistible spicy-sweet sauce is truly a delight! Enjoy this simple yet incredibly flavorful version of the beloved national dish, Soya. If you love more heat, feel free to increase the amount of minced chili or use Cheongyang chili peppers. I hope you have a wonderful mealtime with your family!
