Main Ingredients

  • 5 imitation crab sticks
  • 1.5 Tbsp minced carrot
  • 1.5 Tbsp minced green onion
  • 2 eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Cut each imitation crab stick lengthwise in half. Using a sharp knife will help you achieve cleaner cuts.

Step 1

Step 2

Gently hold both ends of a half crab stick and curve it into a heart shape. Secure the shape by inserting a toothpick or skewer through the center. Ensure the reddish part faces upwards for a prettier presentation.

Step 2

Step 3

Once secured with the skewer, carefully adjust the shape to make it as neat as possible. If the skewer is too long, trim it with scissors for easier handling while cooking.

Step 3

Step 4

Finely mince the carrot and green onion. These vegetables will add vibrant color to your fritters.

Step 4

Step 5

In a bowl, crack the 2 eggs. Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper. Whisk the eggs thoroughly until well combined and no streaks of yolk or white remain.

Step 5

Step 6

Add the minced carrot and green onion to the beaten eggs and mix well. This colorful mixture will make your fritters even more appealing.

Step 6

Step 7

Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a pan over low heat. This prevents the fritters from burning. Place the shaped imitation crab hearts onto the hot oil. Carefully pour the egg mixture into the center of each heart shape.

Step 7

Step 8

Using a spoon, fill about one-third of the heart cavity with the egg mixture, focusing on getting the vegetables in. Once the egg starts to set slightly, gently pour in the remaining egg mixture to fill the heart completely. Continue to cook over medium-low heat until evenly cooked through.

Step 8

Step 9

When the egg is almost fully cooked and firm, carefully flip the fritter using a spatula. Cook the other side for a short while until golden brown to finish.

Step 9

Step 10

Once cooked, place the fritters on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil. Letting them cool slightly will help them firm up, making them easier to handle.

Step 10

Step 11

If any egg mixture has leaked out and looks untidy, use clean scissors to trim the edges for a neat appearance. Finally, carefully remove the skewers. It’s important to remove the skewers only after cooking, as removing them too early can cause the fritters to break apart.

Step 11

Step 12

Transfer your beautifully crafted heart-shaped imitation crab fritters to a serving plate and enjoy!
