Tender Steak Rice Bowl with Savory Sauce

I was planning to cook a steak with the thick beef tenderloin I had at home, but I wanted to enjoy it a bit more special. So, I decided to make a steak rice bowl with a savory and umami-rich sauce! It’s a delightful dish that elevates simple ingredients into a restaurant-quality meal.

  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Beef
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Grilled / Roasted
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 2 thick cuts of fresh beef tenderloin for steak
  • 1/2 medium fresh onion
  • 1 handful of mini king oyster mushrooms
  • 10g unsalted butter
  • 2 bowls of cooked rice

Steak Marinade

  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Drizzle of olive oil

Sauce Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 3 Tbsp oligosaccharide

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, pat the fresh beef tenderloin dry with paper towels, pressing gently to remove any excess moisture or blood. This step is crucial for a clean, non-gamey flavor.

Step 1

Step 2

Season the dried beef tenderloin generously on both sides with salt and pepper. Drizzle a little olive oil over it, then gently pat it with your hands to help the seasoning adhere. Let the seasoned beef sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This allows the meat to reach an even temperature, which is key for a perfect sear.

Step 2

Step 3

While the beef is marinating, thinly slice the onion. To do this, peel the onion and cut it in half vertically, then make thin, even slices across the grain.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare the mini king oyster mushrooms by cleaning them gently. Then, simply tear them into bite-sized pieces by hand. This gives them a nice texture and rustic appearance.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, let’s make the delicious sauce for the rice bowl. In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of water, and 3 tablespoons of oligosaccharide. Whisk everything together until well combined. This balanced sauce will add a wonderful depth of flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the prepared sauce, sliced onions, and torn mushrooms to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

Step 6

Step 7

Continue to cook the vegetables in the sauce until they are tender and have softened, about 3-5 minutes. The onions will become sweet, and the mushrooms will absorb the savory sauce.

Step 7

Step 8

It’s time to cook the star of the dish: the steak! Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet over high heat until it’s very hot. Carefully place the marinated beef tenderloin into the hot pan. Sear each side for about 1 minute without moving it to develop a beautiful crust. This high-heat searing locks in the juices.

Step 8

Step 9

After searing the first side, flip the steak and sear the other side for another minute. For thicker cuts, you can also sear the edges briefly to ensure even cooking and a more appealing look. Adjust the cooking time according to your desired level of doneness (rare, medium, etc.).

Step 9

Step 10

Once the steak is seared to your liking, reduce the heat to medium. Add the 10g of butter to the pan. As the butter melts, spoon it over the steak repeatedly. This butter-basting technique infuses the steak with a rich, buttery flavor and adds a beautiful sheen.

Step 10

Step 11

Remove the cooked steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for about 3 minutes. This resting period is essential; it allows the juices within the steak to redistribute, resulting in a more tender and moist bite.

Step 11

Step 12

After resting, slice the steak into your preferred bite-sized pieces. You’ll see how wonderfully juicy and tender it is.

Step 12

Step 13

To assemble the rice bowl, spoon the warm cooked rice into serving bowls. Top the rice generously with the cooked vegetables and sauce mixture. Finally, arrange the sliced steak pieces attractively over the vegetables.

Step 13

Step 14

And there you have it! A delicious and impressive Steak Rice Bowl, ready to be enjoyed. Bon appétit!
