Ingredients

  • 150g frozen cherries
  • 150g frozen blueberries
  • 100g sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the ingredients for your compote. You can make it with just cherries or just blueberries, or a mix of both! Feel free to adjust the ratios to your liking.

Step 1

Step 2

If your frozen cherries are quite large, cut them in half for easier eating. The blueberries can be used whole.

Step 2

Step 3

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine all ingredients except the lemon juice: frozen cherries, frozen blueberries, and sugar.

Step 3

Step 4

Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Once simmering, reduce the heat slightly and cook, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until it begins to thicken.

Step 4

Step 5

The fruit pieces can become tough if cooked for too long. Before the compote reaches your desired consistency, carefully scoop out the fruit pieces and set them aside in a separate bowl.

Step 5

Step 6

Continue to simmer the remaining liquid in the pot until it reaches a syrup-like consistency. Just before it’s done, stir in the lemon juice and then remove from heat. Remember that the compote will thicken further as it cools, so it’s crucial to turn off the heat at the right moment.

Step 6

Step 7

Pour the cooked fruit and the thickened syrup into a clean, sterilized glass jar. Once cooled to room temperature, seal and store in the refrigerator. Your delicious Cherry Blueberry Compote is ready to enjoy!
