  • Servings : 2 servings

Essential Ingredients

  • 1 pack of store-bought Inari sushi kit (includes fried tofu pouches, sushi vinegar seasoning, and garnish)
  • 1 block of tofu (firm or silken, for frying or stewing)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the tofu. Rinse the block of tofu thoroughly under running water. Since it will be consumed raw, hygienic preparation is key. After rinsing, drain the tofu in a colander for a moment.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, it’s time to mash the tofu. Place the rinsed tofu on a cutting board and gently press it down with the flat side of your knife, mashing it bit by bit. Mashing it as finely as possible, without lumps, will ensure the filling blends smoothly inside the tofu pouches and maintains its shape. If you prefer a bit more texture, leaving a few small lumps of tofu is perfectly fine, so adjust to your preference.

Step 2

Step 3

Squeezing out as much water as possible from the mashed tofu is crucial. This prevents the inari sushi from becoming soggy and helps maintain a pleasant texture. Take handfuls of the mashed tofu and squeeze out the liquid with all your might. Using a cheesecloth or clean kitchen towel will help remove excess water more effectively. If squeezing by hand, repeat the process several times.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare the sushi vinegar seasoning (liquid sauce) and the garnish (powder) that come included in the inari sushi kit. The components may vary by product, so please refer to the kit’s instructions.

Step 4

Step 5

Combine the squeezed tofu and the sauces from the inari sushi kit in a bowl and mix well until evenly combined. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the tofu. Fill the fried tofu pouches with the prepared tofu mixture in appropriate amounts to complete the inari sushi. Here’s an important tip! Do NOT squeeze out the liquid that’s already inside the tofu pouches. This liquid is the secret ingredient that enhances the umami flavor of the inari sushi. Filling the pouches with the tofu mixture while the liquid remains inside makes them much tastier. Definitely try making them without squeezing out the pouch liquid!

Step 5

Step 6

And there you have it – healthy inari sushi made with tofu instead of rice! Thanks to the inari sushi kit, the basic flavor is guaranteed, and with the addition of tofu, it’s a lighter option that still provides a sense of fullness. This recipe is so appealing because it captures both great taste and health benefits, earning praise even from my husband. Make sure to try this delightful recipe!
