- 1 Tbsp salt for brining
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp minced green onion
- 1 Tbsp sunflower oil
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- Pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp minced green onion
- 1 Tbsp sunflower oil
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
- Pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Evenly sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sugar over the prepared bellflower root and mix well. Let it sit for 5 minutes to remove any bitterness.
Step 2
After brining with sugar for 5 minutes, evenly sprinkle 1/2 tablespoon of salt over the bellflower root and mix. Brine for an additional 5 minutes. *Important: Brining with sugar first, then with salt, is crucial for effectively removing bitterness and astringency. Do not reverse the order.
Step 3
After a total of 10 minutes of brining, you’ll notice that water has been drawn out, making the bellflower root moist.
Step 4
Place the bellflower root in a colander and quickly rinse under cold running water. Gently pat dry to remove excess moisture. *Caution: Rinsing for too long can wash away the nutritious benefits and delicious flavor of the bellflower root, so be mindful.
Step 5
Heat sunflower oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the dried bellflower root and stir-fry. *Tip: Stir-frying over medium heat prevents burning and ensures a delicious outcome.
Step 6
After stir-frying for about 3 minutes, add the minced green onion and continue to stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes. *Tip: Bellflower root can be eaten raw, so it only needs a brief stir-fry to retain its excellent texture and flavor.
Step 7
Just before turning off the heat, add sesame oil and sesame seeds, stir briefly to combine, and finish the dish.
Step 8
Once the bellflower root is well-stirred-fried, immediately transfer it to a large bowl or plate to cool down for a bit. This step is crucial for maintaining a crisp, non-mushy texture. Once completely cooled, store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Bellflower root is a beneficial root vegetable and herb for the respiratory system. Make this stir-fry with a crisp, non-bitter texture to boost your family’s health!
