Ingredients

  • Corn silk (from approximately 24 ears of corn)
  • 3 ears of corn
  • 4 liters of water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Carefully separate the silk from about 24 ears of corn, which you can typically buy in a bunch at a market.

Step 1

Step 2

Rinse the collected corn silk thoroughly under running water several times to remove any dirt or debris. This ensures a clean base for your tea.

Step 2

Step 3

Gently squeeze the rinsed corn silk by hand to remove excess water. This step helps to shorten the drying time.

Step 3

Step 4

Spread the squeezed corn silk evenly on a drying rack or colander, ensuring good air circulation. Let it dry in a cool, breezy place for about two days until completely dry.

Step 4

Step 5

Once dried, place the corn silk in a preheated frying pan over low heat. Stir gently and toast for 6-7 minutes, being careful not to burn it. You’ll know it’s ready when a pleasant nutty aroma is released.

Step 5

Step 6

Next, prepare the 3 ears of corn by removing the kernels. Spread these corn kernels in the same pan over low heat and roast for 35-40 minutes. Roasting deepens their natural sweetness and flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

The corn kernels are perfectly roasted when they have a slightly toasted, appealing brown color and feel light and dry to the touch, indicating that most of the moisture has evaporated.

Step 7

Step 8

In a large pot, combine 4 liters of water and about 3 grams (a small handful) of the roasted corn silk. Bring to a boil over high heat with the lid on. Once boiling, add about 15 grams of the roasted corn kernels. Remove the lid and continue to simmer over medium heat for another 10 minutes. Your delicious corn silk tea is now ready!

Step 8

Step 9

Store any remaining roasted corn silk and kernels in an airtight bag at room temperature. This way, you can easily brew a refreshing and nutty homemade corn silk tea throughout the summer whenever you desire!
