Main Ingredients- 4 whole grilled Vienna sausages
- 170g tteokbokki rice cakes (approx. 1 cup)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 tsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1.5 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup) or mulyeot (starch syrup)
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1.5 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup) or mulyeot (starch syrup)
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut each of the 4 whole grilled Vienna sausages into 3 pieces. Then, make deep cross-shaped cuts (‘十’) on the cut sides of the sausages. This helps the sauce to penetrate better and makes them look prettier when cooked. Rinse the 170g of tteokbokki rice cakes in cold water. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the prepared sausages and rice cakes. Blanch them for about 1 minute. This softens the rice cakes and removes impurities from the sausages.
Step 2
Drain the blanched sausages and rice cakes using a sieve. Ensure they are well-drained; this prevents oil splattering when frying and helps them achieve a crispier texture.
Step 3
Now, heat a pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Add the drained rice cakes and sausages. Fry them until the rice cakes are lightly golden and the sausages are glossy and cooked through. This step makes the outside of the rice cakes chewy and the inside soft, while the sausages become plump and juicy.
Step 4
In a separate small bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients: 1 tsp gochujang, 1.5 Tbsp oligodang, and 2 Tbsp ketchup. Use a spoon or a small whisk to mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined and there are no lumps. For a smoother taste, you can add 1-2 Tbsp of water here.
Step 5
Pour the pre-mixed sauce over the fried rice cakes and sausages in the pan. Keep the heat at medium to prevent the sauce from burning.
Step 6
Quickly stir (‘swoosh, swoosh, swoosh~’) to coat the rice cakes and sausages evenly with the sauce. Cook until the sauce thickens and coats everything with a glossy sheen. This is your final dish! Serve it attractively on a plate and delight your children with this delicious sausage tteokbokki!
