Main Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu (approx. 300g)
  • 1/3 paper cup All-Purpose Gochujang (approx. 50g)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic (approx. 20g)
  • 2 Tbsp chopped green onion (approx. 20g)
  • 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (Gochugaru) (approx. 10g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly pat dry the firm tofu block using paper towels. This step is crucial for achieving a nicely browned and intact tofu. Once dried, cut it into pieces approximately 5-6cm wide and long, with a thickness of about 1.5cm.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat about 5 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully place the tofu pieces in the hot oil, ensuring they don’t overlap. Pan-fry each side until golden brown and slightly crispy. This will give the tofu a wonderful texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the tofu is nicely browned, transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil. Using the remaining oil in the pan, add the chopped green onions and minced garlic. Sauté over medium-low heat until fragrant. Then, add the red pepper flakes and stir quickly to combine, being careful not to burn them.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, add the 1/3 paper cup of All-Purpose Gochujang and 1/2 paper cup of water. Stir well to create the sauce. Add the pan-fried tofu pieces back into the pan and simmer over medium-low heat, allowing the sauce to coat and absorb into the tofu. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking. (For the best flavor, refer to the All-Purpose Gochujang recipe at @6927242).

Step 4

Step 5

As the sauce starts to thicken, add the thinly sliced onion. Stir-fry briefly until the onions are slightly translucent and tender-crisp. Avoid overcooking the onions, as you want to retain their fresh, crunchy texture.

Step 5

Step 6

And there you have it – a simple yet delicious braised tofu made with our All-Purpose Gochujang! To finish, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and optionally, some parsley flakes for a pop of color. This dish is perfect with a bowl of warm rice. Enjoy!
