Stew Ingredients

  • 80g Potato
  • 60g Onion
  • 2 Shiitake mushrooms
  • 100g Tofu
  • 50g Canned tuna
  • 200ml Water
  • 4 Tbsp Tuna can liquid

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp Doenjang (Korean soybean paste)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder (or minced garlic)
  • 0.25 tsp Beef bouillon powder

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Add about 50ml of water to the bottom of the rice cooker to lightly moisten it. Place the diced potato (80g) and onion (60g) at the bottom. Then, mash the tofu (100g) with a fork or masher and spread it evenly over the vegetables. Since potatoes take a bit longer to cook, start by using the ‘reheat’ function for 9 minutes to give them a head start.

Step 1

Step 2

On top of the mashed tofu, add 1 Tbsp of doenjang, 0.5 Tbsp of gochujang, the sliced shiitake mushrooms (2), 1 tsp of garlic powder (or minced garlic), 0.5 Tbsp of sugar, and 0.25 tsp of beef bouillon powder for added umami.

Step 2

Step 3

Pour 150ml of hot water (freshly boiled) and 4 Tbsp of the tuna can liquid into the mixture. This helps the ingredients cook better and ensures the doenjang and gochujang dissolve smoothly without clumping. Stir well with a spatula or spoon to combine the seasonings.

Step 3

Step 4

Drain the excess oil from the canned tuna (50g) and add it to the rice cooker. Use a spoon to break up the tuna chunks and distribute them evenly. It’s important to break apart large clumps of tuna, as this can sometimes lead to a fishy taste.

Step 4

Step 5

After adding all ingredients and seasonings and mixing, operate the rice cooker’s ‘reheat’ function again for 9 minutes. This will ensure all ingredients are fully cooked and the flavors have melded beautifully.

Step 5

Step 6

Enjoy your delicious Tuna Doenjang Jjigae with Tofu Rice! Thanks to the tofu replacing the rice, it’s very filling and nutritious, making it a perfect hearty meal.
